The event is being produced, planned and funded by a private nonprofit named Vortex2020. IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild, an Oregon 501(c)(3), is the principal financial sponsor of the Vortex2020 nonprofit. Learn more on the official event website: vortex2020.org
No. Oregon State Parks is one of several event partners. We will be providing the space—Milo McIver State Park—and assisting with logistics to prioritize the safety of attendees and protect park resources.
Oregon State Parks often receives requests for special events at our parks and we approved Vortex2020’s request for two reasons: it honors the original Vortex I event held at the park in 1970, and creates a distinct, new event that celebrates our shared cultural history and encourages stewardship of Oregon’s natural places.
Yes. In order to accommodate event setup and the event itself, the park will be closed to non-festival visitors Aug. 16 - 25.
The event is capped at 10,000 attendees. Additionally, we expect approximately 2,000 security/safety personnel, event staff, state parks staff and volunteers.
Milo McIver State Park is no stranger to large numbers of visitors; an estimated 500,000 people visit the park each year. Park features like trails, walkways, facilities and day-use areas were designed with heavy use in mind.
Oregon State Parks will work closely with event organizers to ensure the park’s natural and cultural resources are protected. All the usual park rules and regulations will still apply, and visitor safety will still be a priority for park staff and volunteers.
