August - September

Champoeg State Heritage Area

Aug. 17 Barn Dance, 5:30-8:30 p.m. -- Kick up your heels to some old-time dance music in our restored 19th-century wheat threshing barn. Enjoy foot stomping music and dance traditional folk dances as a caller teaches you how.  Fun for the whole family.  The band: Worn Out Shoes. Dance caller and refreshments are provided by Oregon State Parks. $5 per vehicle parking fee or free with an annual Oregon State Parks Pass or camping permit.

L.L. Stub Stewart State Park

Aug. 21 OMSI Star Party, 8 p.m.-12 a.m. -- Join us as we gaze at the heavens starting at sunset. The party is free with $5 parking per vehicle parking fee. From beginners to experts of all ages, here's your opportunity to view the stars and other objects through a variety of telescopes. Viewing highlights include Jupiter, Saturn, and more! Warm clothing and a flashlight with red light are recommended. Personal telescopes and binoculars are welcome.

Tryon Creek State Natural Area

Aug. 28 Bat Chats, 7:15-9:15 p.m. -- Register for a free Bat Chat (chat time shown on the registration page) with a trained naturalist. Join an interactive presentation about our local bat species and the amazing adaptations that allow them to survive, followed by a walk to a spot to view bats. There, we will watch bats and listen to echolocating bats with the Bat Detector.
