Work Schedule: Service Term October 1, 2019 thru December 31, 2019.  Volunteer shifts are approximately 4 hours between 2:30p.m-6:30 pm.  Volunteer may flex 2 of those hours to any time during park operating hours, but must maintain 4:30 to 6:30 hours.

Days off are Monday & Tuesday (Days off subject to change do to operational need), for additional days off or alternate days off contact lead ranger for that park for approval.  

 

Knowledge and Skills Desired: Enthusiasm for parks recreational experience, and the ability and desire to communicate with people of all ages. General maintenance and driving abilities.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

Park Staff unlocks gates and restrooms Monday through Friday & locks Monday & Tuesday

 

Routine daily operations include:

  • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday—Lock gates at Lowell, Elijah Bristow and Dexter,
    • If unattended vehicles are in the park, please leave the gate open.  Please note license plate number and give to the ranger the next day
    • For safety—advise visitors from the park vehicle that park is closing
    • Restrooms at Lowell and Dexter also need to be locked during your gate locking run; Elijah Bristow’s will be left open
  • Check Lowell RR daily sweep & restock toiletries as needed. (Heaters will turn on and run in pipe chase automatically).
  • Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday—sweep out and restock restrooms at Dexter (CXT Vault) and Bristow (main park and vault toilet at equestrian day, empty trash cans on report any vandalism or other problems. Custodial items are in the pipe chase at Bristow & Dexter.
  • Greet visitors, providing general information regarding state park amenities, rules, and regulations.
  • Be a presence for the park and marina; report emergencies to park staff
  • Raise and lower the flag
  • Pick up litter and empty garbage cans at Lowell as needed
  • Keep courtesy dock & marina slips clean of goose debris
  • Keep close eye on Marina look for any boats taking on water
  • Work with ranger staff assisting in projects
  • Use a blower on sidewalks, and shelter
  • Clean fire pits as needed—See fire pit cleaning and debris disposal procedures
  • Park hours currently 8am to 7pm.  Beginning November 1st, closing times will be changed by staff to 5pm for all parks.

State truck exchange process:

Do not drive the state trucks in icy/freezing conditions; feel free to leave gates unlocked if need be. Your safety is the priority!

  • Fridays when you lock
    1. Elijah Bristow will be your last park to lock;
    2. Pick up E. Bristow Host at the Equine host site and you two will drive back to Lowell;
    3. The E. Bristow Host will then drive the state truck back to their site so they will have it for Saturday morning.
  • Tuesday evenings
    1. The E. Bristow Host will come and pick you up at your site;
    2. You will drive them back to E. Bristow and drop them off at their site.

 

*Please only fill trucks up with gas at the Bridge Town Market in Lowell, using State gas card in the glove compartment.

 

*This hosting position requires the ability to drive confidently at night when locking park gates and restrooms, with conditions involving potentially thick fog.
