Description

Want to escape to a quiet mountain town located in the beautiful Elkhorn mountains? Want to volunteer at a park that focuses on the old mining history of our past? Then come to beautiful Sumpter Oregon and volunteer at an old historic gold dredge. The Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area is located 30 miles west of Baker City and roughly 50 miles northeast of John Day. Please note, volunteers do not work for OPRD as they work for friends of the dredge. You will be supervised by a friends of the dredge employee not OPRD. Hours of the visitor center are weekdays 10 - 4. You will greet visitors, provide information, and handle monetary transactions from the store. OPRD provides the following amenities; full hook ups (water, sewer, electricity) access to wifi from the library located directly across from the host site, washer and dryer, cabin with full bath, oven, and refrigerator. Any questions please call Garrett.
