Kayak Host

The Cove Palisades State Park

Needed From September 7, 2020
Needed To October 11, 2020

Ahoy!  Beautiful Lake Billy Chinook offers a myriad of water recreational opportunities to visitors.  As non-motorized paddling is gaining popularity in Central Oregon; The Cove Palisades State Park Kayak Program runs through its shoulder seasons April/May and September/October in 2020.  The goal is to introduce visitors to non-motorized boating; while learning about the history, culture, geology and wildlife of the area.  September weather is typically warm; however October can go either way and be beautiful and warm or start to cool down and even see rain.

The Cove Palisades State Park is looking for a kayak host couple for September - the first two weeks of October.  Kayak tours are offered on Fridays and Saturdays on the beautiful Deschutes River (other days may be added).  You will share information on local geology, history, flora and fauna and basic kayaking skills.  Tours are approximately 2-3 hrs. long.  These tours are weather dependent and will be canceled if inclement weather precludes a safe and enjoyable experience.  Additional time may be spent on fall maintenance in the campground; training will be provided.

The Cove is looking for a host(s) with some previous paddling experience and perferably is CPR/First Aid certified.  Must be able to swim and lift kayaks off the trailer.  We would like the host(s) to arrive sometime during the first week of Sept 7th so that you have time to acclimate and paddle the trail before going out with the first tour on Friday, Sept 11th.  The host campsite will be located in the Crooked River Campground which offers solitude, an abundance of wildlife and gorgeous views of Mt. Jefferson.

For more information, please contact Ranger Erin Bennett.  We look forward to set sail with you!
