SOLVE IT for Earth Day at Rooster Rock

Rooster Rock State Park

Needed From April 20, 2019
Needed To April 20, 2019

**9:00am - Noon**

The staff of your Oregon State Parks in the West Columbia River Gorge are excited to host this year's Earth Day volunteer event at Rooster Rock State Park in partnership with SOLVE! Our goal this year is to replace invasive vegetation in areas where it has been removed with native trees and shrubs. We'll be clearing out competing vegetation and laying down wood chips to hold moisture and discourage competition, as well as removing invasive species that compete with native plant growth. Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is committed to ensuring that Oregon's outdoor recreational spaces are well taken care of for the enjoyment and education of current and future generations and we invite all volunteers to join us in this great effort!

Earth Day is important to everyone, so park staff have made sure that there are activities for all ages of volunteers. This event is family and dog friendly! Dogs must be kept on a leash and we ask that folks with furry companions bring bags to pick up your pup's waste. Please check the weather report before leaving the house and dress for the weather, but long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended, regardless of the forecast. There are flush restrooms and potable water on-site, so waterbottles can be filled.

Rooster Rock State Park is in Corbett, OR, along the Columbia River. Take I-84 (east if you're coming from the Portland area, west if you're coming from the Cascade Locks area) and take exit 25 for Rooster Rock. There will be a day use booth at the entrance, but volunteers are NOT required to buy a day use pass that day. We will be meeting in front of the office building to get volunteers registered and talk about safety and the history of Earth Day. The event will start at 9:00am, so please arrive early to register yourself and/or your group.

For information on the day of the event, please contact Ranger John Cowan at 503-969-8304

Thank you for your commitment to Earth Day and to Oregon State Parks!
