Lighthouse Host

Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint

Needed From May 1, 2019
Needed To May 31, 2019

The Cape Meares Lighthouse is the shortest lighthouse on the Oregon Coast, during the month of May we see about 5,000 to 10,000 visitors to the inside of the lighthouse. The duties of the host couple are to run a small gift shop in the workroom of the lighthouse, and to give short interpretive tours of the lighthouse tower. One of you would run the gift shop while the other gives tours. There are 25 stairs in the lighthouse and the position requires you to be on your feet most of the time. The hours the lighthouse is open is 11am to 4pm, so on your work days you would need to arrive a little early to get ready, and then leave once you have cashed out for the day. The lighthouse is closed for you to take a break 2-230. The schedule in May is either a Thursday through Saturday or a Sunday to Tuesday shift where you would work every other Wednesday. This gives you a 3 or 4 day weekend to make up for the long hours.

The host site is at the Cape Lookout State Park Campground 12 miles south of Cape Meares, you would have full hook ups, and host laundry facilities there. Verizon has coverage at Cape Lookout, there is limited cell coverage at Cape Meares. There is a landline phone to contact park staff in the Lighthouse. We provide at State truck for driving to and from the lighthouse.
