Let's Go Camping Mentor

Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area

Needed From July 20, 2018
Needed To July 22, 2018

Join us as one of our "camping gurus" to help mentor and share your love of camping on an overnight family adventure! The Let's Go Camping program is designed for beginner campers of all ages.  We provide a trailer full of gear: tents, sleeping bags and pads, cook stoves, even campfire wood. And, we bring along enough graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows to make s’mores treats for everyone!

Volunteers are crucial to our success.  Your personal experience with camping, a friendly smile and willingness to help is all that's needed.  You help our families feel at home, comfortable and secure through sharing your knowledge of camping gear, outdoor cooking, safety precautions and some of the fun activities you enjoy most on your camping trips.  Our lessons teach beginners the nuts and bolts of setting up tents, caring for equipment, the essentials of what to bring on a hike, safe fire building (and extinguishing!) and campfire cooking.  We also discuss the importance of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.

Three trips in Central Oregon this summer focus on Latino families.Spanish speakers a plus, but not necessary since we'll have help with outreach and translation.

  1.  Tumalo State Park - June 2-4
  2.  The Cove Palisades State Park - Aug 17-19
  3.  Prineville Reservoir State Park - Aug 24-26: We're going kayaking in the full moon!

Could this oportunity be right up your sleeve?  Join us at one or more of our events this summer.  For more info, see:
