SOLVE IT for Earth Day

Lewis and Clark State Recreation Site

Needed From April 21, 2018
Needed To April 21, 2018

The staff of your Oregon State Parks in the West Columbia River Gorge are partnering with SOLVE to host this year's Earth Day volunteer event at Lewis and Clark State Recreation Site. Last year, volunteers planted 250 native plants throughout the park and this year they need a little TLC. We'll be clearing out competing vegetation and laying down wood chips to hold moisture and discourage competition, as well as removing invasive species to encourage native plant growth. Lewis & Clark SRS is located along the Sandy River and is a popular fishing, floating, and swimming destination, so some volunteers will be asked to pick up litter on the beach to prevent trash from floating down the Sandy, into the Columbia River, and eventually out to the ocean.

Earth Day is important to everyone, so park staff have made sure that there are activities for all ages of volunteers. This event is family and dog friendly! Dogs must be kept on a leash, unless in the pet exercise area (signs are posted to indicate the boundaries), and bags to pick up after your pup are located in green dispensors on the restroom building (yes, we have restrooms!). Please check the weather report before leaving the house and dress for the weather. Long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended, regardless of the forecast.

Lewis & Clark State Recreation Site is located in Troutdale, OR. Take I-84 (east if you're coming from the Portland area, west if you're coming from the Cascade Locks area) to exit 18 and continue onto Jordon Road. Lewis & Clark SRS will be on the left and parking should be available in the paved lot. In the unlikely event that the lot is full, take a right out of the park onto Jordon Rd and park in the gravel lot, before the I-84 on ramp. There will be tables with sign-up and check-in sheets by the restroom building.

Thank you for your commitment to Earth Day and to Oregon State Parks!
