Let's Go Camping Mentor

Champoeg State Heritage Area

Needed From August 24, 2018
Needed To August 26, 2018

Do you have knowledge and/or skills in camping?  We are in need of individuals interested in volunteering at any of our 2018 series of Let's Go Camping (LGC) events.  This is a popular family program with events at parks throughout the state, from mid-June through the beginning of August.  We bring the gear and expertise, and new campers of all ages join us for a nominal fee.  Volunteers camp for free.  Experience with camping and camping gear is a plus.

What would you be doing as a LGC volunteer?

  • Assist registrants in all aspects of the program, ensuring that the experience for first-time campers is easy, fun and safe.
  • Provide on-site assistance to Let's Go Camping coordinators and mentor first-time campers through positive and fun interaction
  • Teach sessions about camping and outdoor skills, such as tent set-up, gear/equipment use and care, the 10 Essentials, Leave No Trace ethics, campfire building and safety, and campfire and Dutch oven cooking.

The Let's Go Camping brochure has been released and dates are included on the OPRD website at:
