Join friends and neighbors working together to keep the Nehalem Bay estuary clean, healthy, and beautiful at the 10th Biennial Nehalem Bay Estuary Clean-Up. Help us pick up assorted debris in every imaginable shape, size, and color while learning about this region’s ecology and the potential threats posed by marine debris. Volunteers from NCLC will focus on our habitat reserve at Fishers Point, which lies across the water from Nehalem Bay State Park. The Clean-Up takes place rain or shine; dress for the weather and wear waterproof boots and work gloves. Orientation begins at 7:30 a.m. at Handy Creek Bakery, in the Wheeler Masonic Hall at 63 North Highway 101 in downtown Wheeler. After the Clean-Up, volunteers are invited to the White Clover Grange at 36585 Highway 53 in Nehalem beginning at 2:30 p.m. for live music, a chili and cornbread feast, root beer floats, and socializing. You might want to bring a dry change of clothes for the party. For more information, contact NCLC Stewardship Director Melissa Reich at 503-738-9126 or melissar@nclctrust.org. The Clean-Up is held in partnership with Lower Nehalem Watershed Council, Lower Nehalem Community Trust, Oregon State Parks, and CARTM recycle center.
