America's State Parks announced that all 50 state park systems will sponsor guided First Day Hike Programs on New Year’s Day 2022. America’s State Parks First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on January 1, 2022 at a state park. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family. Join us on an easy 2 mile Ranger-led trek for hikers of all ages. We’ll start at the visitor center, head for the trail along the Willamette River and go back in time by hiking through the old town site and out to the Territorial Government Monument. Day-use parking fees are waived for all visitors at Champoeg State Park Jan. 1 only. Champoeg will be offering two hikes this day. The first one will be at 10:00 am and the second one at 2:00 pm. What to bring: Water bottle, snacks, sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing (rain gear, warm layers, etc.) For more information please contact Ranger Dan Klug at 503-678-1251 xt 222 or Daniel.klug@oregon.gov
