California sea lions infected with Leptospirosis are appearing on Oregon beaches , the Oregon Marine Mammal Stranding Network reports. The contagious bacterial infection, and many others, are transmittable to humans and dogs. Please stay away from stranded marine mammals. It is a violation of federal and state laws to harass, disturb, touch or feed marine mammals. Report violations to Oregon State Police at 800-452-7888. Hoffman Memorial Myrtle Grove is a shaded glen canopied with spectacular myrtlewood trees. There's no drinking water at the park. The myrtlewood tree is a relative of the bay laurel. Many people cook with myrtlewood leaves in place of bay leaves. Can you imagine the pungent aroma that will greet you as you enter this grove?
