The West Gorge has 23 parks spanning over a 73 mile stretch, including hiking and biking trails, scenic viewpoints, historic buildings, 3 islands, a campground, and multiple day use parks with a diverse array of recreational opportunities. Dabney State Recreation Area in Troutdale, OR is a small park that sits between the Sandy River and the Historic Columbia River Highway. In the spring, disc golfers love to play our 18-hole course and the river access is a favorite of fisherman, as well as beach loungers, when the weather is nice. There are a lot of picnic tables and barbeques for visitors to use, including our large, reservable kitchen shelter located in the middle of the park.
The staff of the West Gorge Management Unit is looking for positive, independent hosts that are flexible to the changing needs of the park. Some of the responsibilities of a Dabney host include, but are not limited to:
The host site at Dabney is set back in a wooded area near the park shop and is full hookup with 50 AMP. There is a dumpster for trash and a washer and dryer inside the shop building. The site is very long and can accommodate any size trailer/truck/RV with room for an extra vehicle. Dabney is located about a 5 minute drive from the town of Troutdale and about 30 minutes from Portland.
Please feel free to contact our Host Coordinator, Jami Starr, with questions about this and other opportunities to volunteer in the West Columbia River Gorge and thank you for supporting Oregon State Parks!
