Ahoy!  Beautiful Lake Billy Chinook offers a myriad of water recreational opportunities for visitors.  As non-motorized paddling gains popularity in Central Oregon; The Cove Palisades State Park will offer kayak tours in 2018.  Tours will be offered on our shoulder seasons April/May and September/October.  The goal is to introduce visitors to non-motorized boating; while learning about the history, culture, geology and wildlife of the area.  

Our fleet, purchased in 2016, consists of 6 singles - 12', sit on top, Ocean kayaks and 2 tandem - 12', sit on top kayaks.  We also installed an ADA kayak dock launch devise for visitors with limited mobility.  The interpretive Kayak Host postion will lead beginner kayakers on a tour along the Deschutes River.  In September tours will be offered on Thursdays and Saturdays at 8:30 am (one other day is being considered) and October, tours will be offered on Saturdays, at 8:30 am - tours will be 2-3 hours long depending on weather, ability and interest.  Other duties include but are not limited to:  prepping for tours, loading and transporting kayak trailer and gear, loading, cleaning and returning kayaks and gear, and filling out basic paperwork.  Host is responsible for host site and may help park staff winterize the campground during October in preperation for colder weather. 

We are looking for volunteers for September and/or October 2018.  Host couples are encouraged for this position.  In house training will be provided.  Previous kayaking expierence is desirable, ability to swim and current basic first aid and CPR certificate is required for this positon. 

Guide boats inlcude a single 13' Necky Vector and a tandem 13' Perception Pescador - PFD and paddle inlcuded.  Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year in the Crooked River Campground and there is an abundance of wildlife in the area. Host Site E-37 includes water, power and sewer.  Use of internet is provided at the Interpretive Office.  Flexible days off.  Central Oregon has unpredictable weather, so hosts must be prepared for possible cold weather.  If you would like more information, please contact me!
