Months:  October and November- primary duties may be maintenance of the campground, waysides and other duties of interpretation, educating people about the rules and regulations of the park and scenic water ways

We are looking for a couple with Visitor Services and Interpretive qualities including maintenance abilities.

We have obtained property in the deep canyons of Minam at the confluence of the Wallowa and Minam Rivers that is in the center of our Minam Recreation Area.  Minam is full of some very interesting logging and Native American history.  Our goal is to have two volunteers represent Oregon State Parks in a Visitor Center environment to talk about the surrounding areas history and culture, explain rules and regulations of the park and scenic water way including clean restrooms.

This area is a drop off for many rafters in early spring and sometimes through mid-July.  We need someone to explain the rules of the river and scenic water ways.  The volunteers may sell last minute items to rafters that will be a benefit to our resources and environment which will help ensure a successful river run. This host couple will maintain the Visitor Center and nearby vault toilets daily.

The couple may have to work separately for short periods of time a few days a week.  We are asking volunteers to work 4-8 hours daily with two consecutive days off.

Depending on availability and high use of boat launch, on the Park Rangers day off, we may ask that one volunteer stay near the visitor center and launch area while the other volunteer makes a 2 mile run to the small secluded campground to check restrooms and then make a 4 mile run to check two waysides restroom areas. You will have to take supplies and water with you to clean these waysides. Other duties may include: restroom restocking, cleaning, aiding in firewood services, restocking SRE tickets, and some lawn care.

Your campsite will have water, sewer and 50 amps electrical.  You will be parked next to the Minam Station Visitor Center and nearby boat launch to the Wallowa River.  There will be access to a coinless pay phone for you and other visitors as cell phones do not work in the deep canyon.  Minam is at approximately 2,559’ in elevation which brings warm weather.  You may see deer, elk, bear, cougar, moose and many other small wildlife while staying here.  Other animals to be aware of are rattlesnakes and ticks.

If you are a couple that is self-motivated and like the outdoors and visiting with other people, we might be a good fit for you.
