Wallowa Lake State Park

Current Openings: for Wallowa Lake

*May 15- July 31st site with 30 amps, 53' long pull-thru  Main duties would be cleaning 2 YURTS and working day use clean up. Hours 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. Yurts are pretty simple and reserved daily.  Sometimes there are no yurts to clean, this would allow for working in day use and talking with visitors about the area, policies and the Wallowa Lake deer.

Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is committed to providing world-class service to our customers.  As an OPRD employee, your daily actions and performance in the workplace are critical to achieving this goal, as you provide essential services and represent our agency to the public.  *Volunteers are considered OPRD employees.  See Attached Workplace Expectations and sign.

 

v  Each host will be asked to work 5-6 hours daily and will have two consecutive days off.  That is 50-60 hours total

combined for couples.

v  Hosts must be willing to work weekends, holidays and evenings to accommodate park needs.

v  You must wear your vest and name tag while on duty.

v  Safety- You are number one when it comes to safety.    

v  Each person is responsible for using Personal Protection Equipment.  If you are not sure, please ask.

v  Utility vehicles, tools and equipment provided.  Need tools to get the job done safely / efficiently?  Please Ask!    

Let’s see if we can find it!

v  All host sites should be kept watered and mowed.  Each host will take care of their own host site.  If a host 

site sits empty, please share responsibility and keep it green and trimmed.

v  Laundry Facilities are available during warm weather unless repairs are necessary. 

 

Maintenance of Grounds- Overnight Campsites/Day Use Areas: 8/9 a.m. – 1/2 p.m. 1-5 days per week

v  Hosts will meet at woodshed around 8/9 a.m.  Together they will decide who will put up Flags, pick up Outgoing List and how it will be divided up.  If not many sites on Outgoing List, one couple may take on this task while the others work on areas that need improvement. 

v  Clean fire pits and/or BBQ stands.  Leave about 2-3” of ash and any burnable wood in the fire pits.  Garbage should be removed. 

v  Pick up litter including micro litter around and in the sites

v  Rake around site as necessary

v  Haul garbage (garbage can go into a nearby dumpster) or debris (rocks, limbs/branches, logs etc.) go to shop yard.  If something is too big for you to pick up, inform booth and they can get someone to pick up with BobCat. 

v  Using blower clean roadways and sites

v  Paint /stripe roadways and walking paths

v  Push Mow inside the sites of Loop Assigned

v  Water these sites when done mowing using hoses and sprinklers

v  Trim limbs or bushes as needed.  Wire around bushes; do they need to be bigger? Can we add wire?

v  Check site for safety and damages:  Report to Park Staff if it is something you cannot fix.

·         Table- is it missing nuts/bolts, have broken boards or bad splinters?

·         Water spigot- is it functioning or broke?

·         Electrical- is box damaged?

·         Tripping Hazards- look for holes in ground or asphalt, can we fill it with gravel or dirt?

·         Overhead Dangers- look up are there limbs hanging or broken lines?

·         Fire Pit- does it need repaired?

  WOOD SHED:  3 p.m. – 8/9 p.m.  1-5 days per week Visitors or animals are not allowed in the wood shed. 

v  Keep area clean and free of hazards.

v  Keep carts full and ready for customers.  Inform visitors- bring back carts immediately as other customers are waiting. 

v  Check for fees paid-give number of loads in return, keep customer receipt and turn in receipts at end of shift.

v  Daily Report:   Approximately how many carts were filled per shift?    

v  Notify booth when firewood is down to 2 rows. 

v  Repair carts as needed or inform staff of repairs needed. 

v  If visitor brings their own vehicle to carry wood, let them put wood in vehicle for liability reasons.

v  Wood left behind should be left neatly stacked at the site.  We will assume the camper left it for the next visitor.

 

MAINTENANCE OF BUILDINGS/STRUCTURES: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.  1-5 days per week

v  Re-Stock Restrooms in the overnight area with toilet paper and paper towels

v  Wipe down sinks and check toilets for messes

v  Take out garbage

v  Sweep floors

v  Notify park staff of any messes in the buildings that need tended to

v  Painting/stain

 

YURT CLEANING: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 1-5 days per week.   We only have two hard-sided yurts with check out at 1 p.m.

v  Cleaning will normally be from 1-4 p.m. This includes the yurt and its deck/table.

v  Vacuuming, sweeping and mopping

v  Dusting, cobwebs and washing windows/blinds as needed

v  Wiping down beds and cleaning under mattresses

v  Check fire and carbon monoxide alarms

v  Other house hold cleaning

 

CUSTOMER SERVICE: 

v  Be a visible Representative.

v  Greet visitors, inform of local area and things to see and do, tell them about our programs and answer questions.  If you do not know the answer, send them to the booth.

v  Keep brochure rack supplied 

v  Explain Park Rules and try to generate compliance.  (see below)

 

Hosts may inform visitors or ask for compliance of rules but hosts will not enforce park rules and regulations.  If visitors refuse to comply, please contact park staff.

 

        Most Common Rules Broken:

v  Dogs off leash

v  Contact with wildlife:  Visitors are not allowed to feed, pet or come in contact with deer, squirrels, birds or bears and cougars.

v  Quiet Hours are 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

v  Bicycles:  Young kids need supervision and must ride with traffic.  Mud puddles in the enter section may be fun to play in but we need to discourage this activity.  They are not paying attention to traffic.  Helmets are required for kids under 16 years of age.  You may ask the child to take their bike back to camp.  If parents have questions, please have them talk to park staff at registration booth.

v  Motorized scooter, bikes, ATV’s are not allowed to be used in park unless it is for ADA purposes. Talk to staff if you see this happening in the park.

v  Generators:  We do not advertise use of generators.  Only allowed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.   Exhaust and decibels/noise may be grounds for staff not allowing a generator to be operated.
